Meet the Newlyweds...
14th October 2017
‘It’s a bit of a hidden spot - we thought it would be amazing to get married there.’
Claire Wilkinson (née Murtagh), 31,
and Jon Wilkinson, 32, from Caterham in Surrey.
Describe your big day?
Jon says: ‘It was a relaxed, surf type scene. We’re both really into surfing.’
‘It was all in the details. Claire teaches design technology so we spent a few weekends in the run up making things in the workshop - from surfboard cut outs to a beach hut letter box. We had a camper van to take us from the church to the hotel, and after the ceremony we had some pictures taken by the beach huts before going up to the hotel.
‘People said it was one of the best weddings they’ve been to, which was cool. Everyone got on well and the different family and friends gelled well, especially at the reception where everyone danced to a band who came all the way from London for the wedding.’
What would you have done differently?
‘Nothing! It sounds boring, but everything just rolled so well. The hotel was fantastic and made everything flow - from the wedding breakfast to the reception. Even though they had time constraints and we over-ran they were very relaxed about it. Kim, the wedding coordinator, said the staff had a good time too!’
‘We’ve been surfing at Saunton and Croyde for years and go down regularly. It’s a bit of a hidden spot as everyone goes to Cornwall. We thought it would be amazing to get married there.’
