HEALTH AND BEAUTY BENEFITS OF SALT INHALATION

Simulating the conditions in salt caves, the salt inhalation steam room in Source Spa and Wellness’ Thermal Suite is heated to 45°C, releasing pure salt vapour into the air whilst you relax in the serene surroundings.

Some people who suffer from allergies, respiratory and skin diseases say that 30-40 minutes of salt inhalation or 'halotherapy' gives great results and may offer a drug-free chance to feel better. It’s not only for those with ailments, non-sufferers may find that salt inhalation helps with sleep, relaxation and rejuvenation.

The history

Throughout modern and ancient history, the benefits of salt have been documented; The Greeks and Romans bathed in warm salt-water for relaxation, rejuvenation and also to heal a variety of skin conditions. But it was in 1843 that a Polish physician, Dr F. Bochkowsky, discovered that salt miners rarely suffered from respiratory diseases and linked the inhalation of salty air to health benefits.

How does halotherapy work?

Nola7 Salt Inhalation Rooms are based on the inhalation of particles resembling the conditions in salt caves. The specific microclimate of 20-25°C releases pure salt vapour into the air whilst you relax in the serene surroundings. The natural healing qualities of salt are that it’s anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. These qualities are what can make salt an effective method of relieving a number of respiratory issues. The salt’s anti-inflammatory properties may help to relieve inflammatory skin conditions and act as a gentle defoliant to aid the ridding of dead skin to reveal healed skin.

So if you’ve tried every decongestant to relieve a stuffy nose from seasonal allergies or a common cold and every cream and ointment on the market for irritating inflammatory autoimmune skin conditions, perhaps 30-40 minutes in a room full of salt might just be exactly what you need to finally kick the congestion or relieve your skin.

Top tips:

  • Since salt is a drying agent, we suggest drinking water afterwards.
  • Rinse your swimming costume thoroughly afterwards, as saltwater can make your swimsuit fade.
  • Try rubbing the salt residue into your skin, it can help soften it and act as an exfoliant before showering the salt off
