Dog Tips for the South West Coast Path

Published on

At our Saunton, we understand the importance of quality time with your pets, and what better way to bond with your furry companion than by exploring the outdoors together? Right on our doorstep is the South West Coast Path, so when you stay at our Saunton Apartments with your pets it's the perfect excuse to get out for a stomp.

Before setting off on your walk, here are some useful tips to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience:

Plan your route

The South West Coastal Path spans over 630 miles and offers a variety of routes for all abilities. Research your options and choose a route that suits you and your dog's fitness levels. Be sure to check the weather forecast and tide times before setting off.

Stay on the path

The South West Coastal Path is a designated walking route, so it's important to stick to the marked path to avoid damaging the surrounding natural environment. Dogs must be kept on a lead in certain areas to protect wildlife and farm animals, so be sure to check signage along the route.

Respect Others

The South West Coastal Path can be a busy place, so it's important to be courteous to other walkers, runners and cyclists. Keep your dog under control at all times and be prepared to give way to other users of the path.

Be Prepared

Pack for your adventure with plenty of water for both you and your furry friend, as well as any necessary supplies such as dog waste bags and a first-aid kit. It's also a good idea to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the terrain and weather.

Enjoy the journey

The South West Coastal Path offers some of the most stunning scenery in the UK, so take your time and enjoy the journey with your furry companion. Take breaks along the way to rest and take in the stunning views. Remember, it's not about the destination, but the journey that counts.
