A guide to walking the South West Coast Path from Saunton

Published on

With sweeping beaches, dramatic headlands and some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in Devon, Saunton is a wonderful starting point for exploring the South West Coast Path. Autumn is an especially lovely time to discover it, with walking temperatures, quieter trails and changing colours across the North Devon landscape.

The South West Coast Path stretches for hundreds of miles around the coastline of the South West, passing through some spectacular corners of North Devon.

From Saunton, walkers can explore the coastline towards Croyde, Baggy Point and Woolacombe, taking in the beautiful sea views along the way. In the opposite direction, the vast sands and dunes surrounding Saunton and Braunton Burrows offer a completely different side of the North Devon Landscape, meaning you don't have to travel far to enjoy a memorable day of walking.

It's a lovely choice if you want to spend a few hours outdoors without committing to a full day of walking.

Continue to Baggy Point

If you're feeling energetic, continue beyond Croyde towards Baggy Point. This dramatic headland is one of the highlights of this stretch of the North Devon coast with far-reaching views across the Atlantic and towards Woolacombe. On a crisp autumn day, it's an incredible place to stop and take in the scenery.

Pack your walking boots, take your camera and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the views. Stop in one of the nearby coastal villages for lunch , discover a quiet viewpoint or simply find somewhere to sit and watch the waves. Autumn brings its own character to the North Devon coast.
