5 romantic walks near Saunton Sands Hotel

Halfway to Heaven

Feeling energetic? This locally named climb is just opposite the hotel and is a less-trodden path to get from Saunton to Croyde. Take a deep breath and ascend past the derelict house, majestically reclaimed by nature to reach the summit; the hilly hike is rewarded with heavenly views, stretching out over 3 bays: Woolacombe, Croyde & Saunton and all the way over to Westward Ho! and Hartland.

Beauty of Baggy

Baggy Point divides Croyde Bay (adjacent to Saunton) and Putsbourough (leading on to Woolacombe) and provides spectacular scenery as you meander around the point.  Peppered with benches and slip ways to secret spots to nestle away your loved one, there are many paths to take depending on how far your feet fancy taking you.  The full circuit suspends you alongside the cliff edge for much of the journey, leading you to the UK’s no 1 beach; Woolacombe - approximately 2 miles of golden sands and dunes to play upon and feel like a child again! This is a non-stop eye-orgy, as the view is always with you.

Crow Point

Discover the wild and beautiful point either by taking a short drive towards Braunton or embarking on a lengthy stroll to the end of Saunton Sands Beach.  By car, you’ll peel off the main road to cruise across the great fields of marshes and farmland on to a toll road and parking spot.  The road is shared with the local wooly residents so go slow and enjoy the views. Tread the board-walk and emerge at the point to be greeted by the estuary to the right and the Atlantic to your left.  You don’t have to wonder far to find a magical place to yourself.

Braunton Burrows

Explore the Biosphere Reserve on our doorstep. It is a world-class designation that makes the status of the area equal to that of other world-wide Biosphere Reserves such as the Danube Delta, the Hawaiian Islands and the Great Gobi. If it looks too wild out there, then Saunton Sands Hotel has the best views over the burrows to be found, so take an afternoon tea and enjoy its spectacle.

Down End coves

To the east of the hotel as you reach Croyde Bay, head down towards the beach but instead take a right and follow along the craggy cliff tops and select the sandy cove for you. Take a picnic or hot flask and be enveloped with the sounds of the ocean and keep an eye out for dolphins and seals!

Keep these beautiful places special and leave nothing behind but foot prints and take nothing but memories (and selfies!)
