Winter wanders and seasonal sensations

We’re welcoming the incoming winter chill with deliciously warming tipples, blanket-clad walks across the coastline and hearty seasonal suppers. If your winter plans are feeling a little lacklustre fear not, as we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite seasonal pleasures to keep you warm and jolly.

Seasonal Afternoon Tea

Fed up of the frost? Find a snug spot in the relaxing atmosphere of the Terrace Lounge and enjoy a splendidly lazy afternoon tea while gazing at the glistening waters below. It’s a wonderful opportunity to catch up with loved ones over a picture-perfect tiered spread. Plus, we are treating guests to a free glass of mulled wine when booking the indulgent cream tea. Only 22.50 per person.

RHS Rosemoor Garden Illuminations

From 14 November – 4 January, wander through gorgeous illuminative gardens at RHS Rosemoor. It’s a magical way to spend an evening, ‘with remarkable, hi-tech colour-changing lights illuminating the garden in the depths of winter, it will make an amazing show to delight visitors’ as put by the Rosemoor team.

Bathe in the thermal suite

What could be more pleasurable than slipping into a gorgeously warm pool against the cool air? Especially when it’s complemented with a sensational Source Spa treatment – plump for the relaxing Source Salt Scrub to buff and polish your body or embark on a sensory journey with the A Chance To Dream full body aromatherapy massage.

Pull on your walking boots

Come rain or shine, there are excellent and picturesque walks to enjoy in North Devon. If you want to keep close to Saunton, try the less-challenging Baggy Point walk and enjoy awe-inspiring sea views. Or, head a little further afield to Exmoor and make your way to the gorgeous Heddon’s Mouth. Either take the easier 2-mile circular walk, or if you’re feeling fit trek the Heddon Valley to Woody Bay 6-mile walk. Breathtaking coastal views and gorgeous woodlands await.

Christmas Markets and Food Fairs

There are some excellent local markets to pick up handcrafted Christmas presents, try delicious local fodder and enjoy general festive merriment. Here’s a few we’d recommend marking on the foodie and festive calendar:

  • Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market – 16 November-19 December
  • Bideford Christmas Market – 30 November
  • North Devon Christmas Market – 7 December
  • Magic of Christmas Food & Craft Fair – 14-15 December

Dust off the board games

If it’s blowing a hoolie out there, why not pop to the Terrace Lounge and warm up with a pot of tea and pull out one of the board games we stock? There’s a great selection to pick from, and it’s a lovely way to spend a blissfully lazy afternoon with loved ones.
